World globes, pencil sharpeners February 15, 2010

At 2" high, this tiny world globe pencil sharpener has loads of information.

Several styles of pencil sharpener world globes were made. This one, marked “Made in England” has Leningrad, USSR, Persia (instead of Iran), Burma, Belgian Congo, Tanganyika, one Rhodesia, a very large Tibet, and a small China. Yukon is shown as being west of Alaska. Leningrad was named this from 1924-1991. Persia became Iran in 1935. To research: Why the large Tibet & tiny China? It also shows Union of S. Africa (this name started in 1910). Accra is shown in W. Africa
